Alfresco Lifestyle.

A bright new day beckons and it’s time to go places. A day out.

One of my all time favourite ways to spend a day from home is to include a must-have picnic. It really can be any time of day in my book - early morning breakfast on a beach or by a peaceful stretch of river or hidden away stream; your regular lunchtime picnic with a view to die for; or a special evening picnic in a magical place.

And more often than not, it helps to be organised by making sure you have the essentials at hand. A picnic can often involve walking or cycling to your desired spot, so making sure you can carry everything is a good starting point. Now as you might imagine, my picnics involve a bit of pretty! Whilst many may prefer the plain and functional, and of course there’s nothing wrong with that, I do like to have a bit of style thrown in when I’m putting a picnic together. And that is what Oh Curio is all about.

Bags. Lots of them!

Every shape and size. Our favourites for outdoor eating are the beautiful straw bags and baskets. From market shoppers, to totes, to backpacks - they all come in straw and are just spot on for a day out.

Something to sit on.

Assuming it’s a dry day, I always find that a cosy blanket, or a large cotton quilt can really set the scene. If you are needing to keep things light, then a hammam towel works a treat too and doubles up for drying you off should you decide to take a dip.

“Someone once said to me that a good book is like an old friend. You’ll always feel safe having a good one by you at all times!”

A good read...

Occasionally, there are days out where you need to have a bit of quiet time thrown in. A good bit of daydreaming is always blissful, or lying down and just cloud watching, but one of my all time favourites is simply reading. Who doesn’t enjoy a good book to get stuck into - a new novel or a glorious journal full of stunning pictures. Someone once said to me that a good book, (not the Kindle sort but the genuine article) is like an old friend. You’ll always feel safe having a good one by you at all times!

The all time essential is obviously a selection of yummy foodie bits, but I’m going to leave that up to you. What you mustn't forget though are your napkins. You just can’t avoid sticky fingers on a picnic, or crumbs, crumbs, crumbs - there’s no escaping them is there. A simple linen napkin is what I would always choose to take with me. It’s the eco-friendly alternative, adds a hint of luxury and well, just looks rather lovely.  If you can squeeze in a hand-sanitizer too, then I would always recommend one of those rather nice luxury ones - there really are some beautiful ones around.

Add some candlelight.

And last but not least, one of my must-haves for those of you that enjoy an evening picnic, is a candle or two. Depending on how much you have to carry, you can go big or small on this one. A very simple tiny holder with one beautifully coloured candle in it, or a larger lantern with tealight popped inside - these are glass so remember to wrap it up well in your rug or napkins! I’m so addicted to candles so I will always find an excuse to light one wherever I can - it just adds that hint of magic. (Don’t forget your matches).

So there you are. A little something for the warmer days ahead when you head out for some R and R. I could go on and on, but these are just a handful of my go-to’s for you to be inspired by.
